Diagonal Balance

It was 1947 when the young, newly-qualified architect Hans Asplund´s proposal "Diagonal Balance" won the competition to design Eslöv´s Civic Hall, which was built and completed in 1957. The basic idea and the detailing bear the imprint of contemporary international trends and of inspiration from the work of his father, Eric Gunnar Asplund.

Site plan

The various civic spaces are arranged around a generous and expansive ground floor foyer and courtyard garden. This includes a longitudinal tapered funnel containing auditoriums, a club room, a four-storey block housing offices and administration and meeting rooms. A balcony wraps around a basement level bar and a self-contained restaurant with a separate entrance occupies the front of the building.
